F1 Thrills

Everything you want to know about the show run being held today and tomorrow

The will be held under the patronage of H.H Sayyid Taimur Bin Assad Al-Said and in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism. Touching down on Oman sands for the very first time, an F1 Showrun is, for thousands of spectators, a once in a lifetime chance to experience an F1 car close up.
The free for public event will include an exciting array of activities and stunt shows. A shuttling system to and from the event venue will be available on the day for the public. Red Bull Showruns take place at racing circuits, on city streets, at festivals and exhibitions. Often playing to crowds measured in hundreds of thousands, they give fans the chance to witness the contained ferocity of a Formula 1 car at very close quarters. Formula 1 is a great sport for TV, but there is no substitute for the ear-splitting roar of the engine, the haze of tire smoke and aroma of burning rubber.

Red Bull’s RB8 car will accelerate past crowds on a 1.1km strip past the beautiful Muttrah harbour and Riyam Park, home to Muscat’s huge incense burner.
You can get up close and personal with the car and hear the roar of its engine today at Oman Automobile Association (OAA) from 5pm onwards. Remember, this is the same car that claimed the 2012 Drivers’ Championship and the Constructors Championship. The car, which accelerates from 0-100km/h in 2.4 seconds, will reach speeds of 250km/h and above. The Running Showcars have visited the four corners of the world, visiting locations that would not normally host a Formula 1 event and in many instances giving people their first taste of Formula 1 in the Flesh.

David Coulthard will be the driver of the Red Bull F1 Showrun, which is set to take place on the streets of Oman on Friday April 8, 2016 at Muttrah Corniche. The Scottish driver, who dominated Britain’s junior Formula Ford categories in 1989 and became the first ever recipient of the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award for young drivers, is all set to perform a full repertoire of donuts, burnouts and speed stretches in front of Omani fans.

Around 70 people from various colleges across the Sultanate, along with several local artists, participated in the Red Bull Helmet Art competition. The unique competition will see the winning helmet design brought to reality and then worn during the Red Bull F1 Showrun by David Coulthard when he takes to the wheel. After the event the winner will go home with the autographed helmet.
And the winner is Daniel Parera, a design student at the Scientific College of Design in Seeb , who says: “My concept is about the locally relevant elements. I tried to use a few local abstract images in the artwork. I have mainly made use of the Oryx, which is the national animal, which is also an elegant and graceful animal. I have used other materialistic elements as well as the khanjar and the monument.”
